This article is the first of several that I will post on a monthly basis so as to let you know what is going on in our church and in my spirit. Today, I would like to share with you a vision I had last night as I slept. You see, I Like Martin Luther King Jr. have a dream!
This article is a way for me and you to share a revelation as to where God would have us go. I would entitle the vision, “The Church Exceptional”. What God revealed to me was a new kind of church, one that is unique and special for all who choose to be a part of it. Let me give you the basics of what I saw.
1. This church shall be a multicultural body where all God’s children; red, yellow, black, or white shall come together without cultural or worldly separations to worship our one true God.
2. We will be a theological conservative church where the core, ancient beliefs of Christianity can be taught without fear or trepidation.
3. We will be a place of healing where our broken\sick human spirits, our broken\sick minds, and our broken\sick bodies can be healed and made whole and born again as God always meant for them to be.
4. Of these three kinds of healings, the most important is the healing of the broken human spirit where it might be born again and made whole in the act that we call salvation.
5. We will be a truly pentecostal, charismatic, full-gospel church where the gifts of the Holy Spirit are expected to be manifested and practiced both in public worship and in the ministries of healings of every kinds.
6. We will be a covenant community that believes in Godly covenantal relationships that enables us to submit to God and to each other and so to become a true community of believers where the welfare of the Body shall be more important than our own.
7. Each person who chooses to become a member of this Body shall make a verbal covenant with all other members of the body and with God who is the covenant maker.
8. We will be a community of believers that are of one mind, unified in faith, hope, and in the grace God provides us so that we can be one body with many parts.
9. We will be the “Body Of Christ” here in New Bern, North Carolina, and a part of Christ’s body everywhere.
10. We will be a Body governed by Ruling Elders who are called by Jesus Christ and elected by the whole body to shepherd His flock under the guidance of a Pastor who himself is under the covering of Jesus Christ, the Head of all churches
11. Each part of this body shall be chosen by the whole body to reflect the ministry gifts Jesus has given them so that they may be able to reach out in healing to those who are broken and seek to be healed.
12. No ministry part shall be greater than any other part but shall work together to edify the whole body.
13. Each person, who chooses to be a part of this Body, shall be expected to identify their own place, and to serve the whole as a minister of Christ.
14. We shall be different and unique among the other churches in New Bern and should expect to be recognized as such by all others.
We are not yet all of these things but are in the process of becoming so. This is my dream and I hope it will become yours also. God has great things planned for His Body here and it is my desire that many others will seek to become a part of us.
